NAVSTA Norfolk Teen Program

Leadership and Service Programs
"Help youth build leadership with self, leadership with others, and leadership within the community."
This area of the Teen Program houses many programs such as: Boys and Girls Club of America Military Youth of the Year/ Youth of the Month, quarterly community service projects under our Keystone Leadership Program, and Youth Sponsorship.
Our Youth Sponsorship program helps bridge the gap for incoming and outgoing youth from Installation to Installation or transitions for Youth coming into the program "welcome aboard" or those aging out "fair winds."
Youth of the Year is a notable event for our program. The Youth of the Year program, started in 2013, recognizes one of the NAVSTA Norfolk Youth Center attendees for their commitment to community service, academic success, good character and establishment of long-term goals. Youth participate in an installation wide & statewide competition with the chance to compete at higher levels all the way up to Nationals. Installation winners are presented with an award from the Installation Commanding Officer and a ceremony. The 2024 Youth of the Year winner is Jade Abreu who has since go on to win the statewide competition.
Teens can also participate in Keystone Club which is a leadership club. Participants get to attend the National Keystone Conference hosted by the Boys and Girls Club of America every year during the summer in a different city.
STEM and Education Programs
”Complement and reinforce what youth learn during the school day while creating experiences that drive interest and build capacity for success in these disciplines and provide youth support in developing a plan for the future by complementing academic success, preparation for post-secondary education, and career development.”
Programming in this area centers around school focused interests. Career and College information, resume workshops, scholarship information, college tours, financial planning, annual 4-H STEM events and more.
School Liaison
The School Liaison primary function is to serve as a conduit between parents, educators and the command so that military-connected children experience a seamless transition during the transfer between schools. Knowing that many military children move an average of every 2.9 years, School Liaisons can provide families with educational information to assist them as they begin their PCS planning.
